Cardiac Troponin T
Troponin T from serum is a blood test when a suspected damage of the heart muscle is mapped.
If the heart muscle is damaged there is an increase in troponin T in the blood.
Possible triggers are; acute coronary syndrome, myocardial infarction, myocarditis, trauma, pulmonary embolism, toxins, hypertensive crisis, stroke, renal insufficiency.
A short-lived increase in troponin T is indicative of an acute myocardial infarction.
So for complaints like:
- Pain, pressing or squeezing sensation in the chest;
- Pain between the shoulder blades;
- Radiating complaints such as pain in the arm, throat, jaw;
- Shortness of breath,
- Sweating,
- Nausea, vomiting;

For women, they often have different symptoms than men, such as:
- Pain in the upper abdomen, jaw, neck or back;
- Pain between the shoulder blades;
- Extreme fatigue;
- Dizziness;
- Restless feeling, anxiety and rapid breathing.
Sometimes this test is used to monitor blood levels after surgery.
