Shipping Medical Post PostNL
After the blood draw, place the blood-filled tubes in the medical envelope provided. Then you can put the envelope in the mail. This can be done through an orange mailbox or by dropping it off at a PostNL point. You do not need to frank the shipment; we have already taken care of that.
In extreme hot or cold weather, we recommend putting the tubes in the mailbox only shortly before PostNL's collection time or dropping them off directly at a PostNL location.
Store blood at room temperature and urine in the refrigerator until shipping.

Attention do not offer it via Track & Trace at the POSTNL service point. The people at the service point do not know this, but this slows down the routing of the medical mail, it should just be offered as mailbox mail. Because of the packaging, the shipment automatically follows a special route, which is much faster to the lab.
Medical Mail is a very reliable method of shipping used by many medical institutions in the Netherlands. Because of the pre-stamped envelope we provide, it becomes "Medical Post" immediately after posting in the regular orange mailbox.
The route then goes very differently from regular mail, just as, for example, mourning mail also follows a different route.
If the envelope is addressed to Valkenburg, that is a postal point where couriers drive up and down to the lab in Mönchengladbach all day, for rapid processing of samples.
In extreme weather conditions please do not put the samples in the orange mailboxes but drop them off at a PostNL service point for mailbox mail, then the extreme temperature will not affect the samples.
Medical Post
Always choose a PostNL point where you can send letters or cards. A point where you can only send parcels, with a track & trace code, is not suitable for medical mail.
Look here for the PostNL location where they send letters in your area, recognisable by this logo:

So without track & trace code, just as a letter, it automatically becomes medical mail, because of the packaging we provide.
On weekends and holidays, put your medical mail in the special mailbox for medical materials. These are also emptied on Sundays. In the PostNL location guide you can see where you can find these mailboxes. Filter on 'Mailing letter' and choose 'Medical'.
