I submitted a urine sample today. Results: Nitrite (ur) - negative. Red blood cells. - < 20. White blood cells. - < 25. Bacteria. - 6. What do these results mean? Sincerely, Martien

    Dear Vera,

Thank you for your message. It’s understandable that you have questions about the results.

Since this urine test was requested through your primary care physician, we recommend that you contact your primary care practice. They can evaluate the results in light of your symptoms, medical history, and any other findings.

Elevated white blood cell counts in the urine may be consistent with a urinary tract infection or another form of inflammation, but they are not always a sign of an infection. That is why it is important for your primary care physician to evaluate the results in the proper context.

I had my urine tested / my doctor said he would contact me if the results weren’t normal / I checked the results myself and my white blood cell count is +82 /µL.
When I look this up, it seems I have an infection / Or am I misinterpreting this?

    What does 4+ mean?

Good question! A result of 1+ leukocytes in urine by itself does not say everything. It may be an indication that something is going on, but based on this value alone, there is no way to determine what is causing it.

Therefore, additional tests, such as a culture, are often done to get more clarity. Since you had the test done at your doctor's office, I recommend that you discuss this result and any symptoms with your doctor for proper assessment.

I had large stick done at GP. Leukocytes was 1+, now culture. Is 1+ always a bladder infection?

I have been struggling with it for a year. Was advised to start taking D Mannose with cranberry. Has gone well for 3/4 years. Am allergic to most antibiotics so it keeps searching for the right and possible one! Strength.

I have had cystitis off and on since last July so have been taking antibiotics for so long too, I have had a look inside my bladder but it looked fine according to the doctor. What else is there to do about it because I am so incredibly done with it.
