IBS - Finger prick
With the IBS finger prick test you can easily measure important blood values at home that give insight into intestinal complaints. This test was developed to provide support in monitoring complaints such as abdominal pain, bloating and fluctuating bowel movements, and to rule out possible underlying abnormalities.
Why this test?
With complaints that fit irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), blood tests are primarily intended to rule out other causes, such as inflammation or organ problems. This test therefore combines a number of important parameters often used in medical practice.
In addition, this test is also suitable for people with chronic intestinal diseases such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis (IBD) to monitor their blood values regularly, for example when tracking inflammatory activity or possible side effects of medication.
What is measured?
This test contains the following parameters:
- Blood count - gives insight into anemia and general health, among other things
- CRP (C-reactive protein) - marker for inflammatory activity in the body
- ALAT & ASAT - important liver enzymes that reflect liver function
- Gamma-GT - additional marker for liver and bile function
- Creatinine - provides insight into kidney function
Reliable home measurement
Scientific research by the UMC Utrecht shows that blood sampling via finger prick at home is a reliable alternative to blood sampling in the hospital. In this study, conducted on patients with chronic intestinal diseases, an average of 88% of home measurements were successful, rising to 95% with repeated measurements.
Most samples were safely analyzed within 24-48 hours while maintaining quality. In addition, users appear to experience the finger prick as barely painful.
Advantages of the IBS home test
- Easy finger prick test at home
- No visit to doctor or clinic needed
