MitoStress™ - Cellular Energy & Fatigue Test
The GDF15 test is an innovative blood test that provides insight into systemic cell stress and the function of mitochondria - the body's power plants. This test is particularly suitable for people with unexplained fatigue symptoms, post-viral symptoms (such as Post-Covid) or suspected mitochondrial dysfunction.
GDF15 (Growth Differentiation Factor 15) is a body's own protein that increases with cellular stress, oxidative damage, chronic low-grade inflammation and biological aging. Elevated GDF15 levels may indicate a disturbance in energy metabolism and reduced tax capacity of the body.
This biomarker is particularly produced in tissues with high energy demands, such as skeletal muscle, heart muscle, liver, kidneys, intestines, lungs and immune cells (such as macrophages).
This blood test consists of:
- GDF15 (Growth Differentiation Factor 15) - determination in serum (method: ELISA)
Elevated levels occur in ME/CFS, Post-Covid syndrome, chronic inflammatory diseases, oxidative stress and accelerated biological aging, among others. Low, age-adjusted values, on the other hand, are associated with good metabolic health and increased life expectancy.
Thanks to the short half-life of GDF15 (a few days), this test is also suitable for monitoring recovery and effect of lifestyle interventions or treatments.
Applications of the test:
- Insight for prolonged or unexplained fatigue
- Support for Post-Covid or post-viral symptoms.
- Evaluation of mitochondrial stress and energy balance
- Assessment of biological aging and vitality
- Monitoring recovery from exercise or lifestyle changes
This test is designed to complement other biomarkers such as CRP (inflammation), CK (muscle damage), liver enzymes, glucose, lactate and iron status. Interpretation is always done in the context of the whole.
