Synonyms:
ADNAse B, anti-streptodornase B, anti-streptococcal DNAse B, anti-DNase B, anti-istreptodornase B
Categories:
Infection diagnostics, reactive arthritis, post-streptococcal complications
Purpose of study.
This test measures antibodies to DNAse B, an enzyme produced by group A streptococci (Streptococcus pyogenes). These antibodies arise after an experienced streptococcal infection and may indicate complications such as:
- Rheumatic fever
- Post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis
- Skin superinfections
- Reactive arthritis
The Anti-DNase B test is often requested in conjunction with the AST (Antistreptolysin Titer) for a more complete picture of a recent or past streptococcal infection.
Collection and material
- Sample required: 0.50 ml serum
Analysis information
- Method: NEPH - Nephelometry
- frequency of analysis 3 times a week
- Reference value: < 200 E/ml
- Accreditation: ISO 15189
Caution:
The Anti-DNase B test is sometimes confused with the Anti-dsDNA test, which is intended for the diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). This test specifically targets streptococcal-related immune responses, and not autoimmune diseases.
