Omega-3-6-7-9 Fatty Acid Analysis
The HS-Omega-3 Index® is a scientifically validated fatty acid analysis that provides insight into your Omega-3 status and overall fatty acid balance. This test is conducted by Omegametrix, a leading laboratory in Germany specializing in standardized fatty acid analyses at the cellular level. The test was developed by Prof. William S. Harris and Prof. Clemens von Schacky and is used in more than 300 scientific publications worldwide.
One blood sample is used to determine the level of 26 fatty acids in red blood cells (erythrocytes). The most important result is the HS-Omega-3 Index®: the percentage of EPA and DHA in relation to the total number of fatty acids. In addition, you receive the HS-Trans Index® (trans fatty acids) and a complete fatty acid profile including omega-6, omega-7, omega-9, saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids.
This test is relevant in cases including:
- Cardiovascular diseases
- Chronic inflammatory reactions
- Cognitive decline
- Reduced sports performance or recovery capacity
- Need for nutritional optimization or supplementation
A healthy HS-Omega-3 Index® is between 8% and 11%. Values below 4% are associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease and cognitive decline, among others. For the HS-Trans Index®, a value below 1.04% is considered optimal.
Sampling options:
- Dry Blood Spot (finger prick): Self collection at home with a few drops of blood on a test card. The test is stable during shipment and is analyzed by Omegametrix. No need to be sober.
This research consists of:
- HS-Omega-3 Index® (EPA + DHA in %)
- HS-Trans Index® (trans fatty acids in %)
- Full fatty acid profile (26 fatty acids, including omega-6, -7, -9, saturated and unsaturated fatty acids)
- Personal report with interpretation and recommendations.
- Guidelines for improvement via diet and/or supplementation.
It is recommended to repeat the test annually to monitor changes in fatty acid balance and the effect of diet or supplementation. Please note: this test is intended as an additional health measurement and not a substitute for medical advice. Always consult your (primary) physician in case of symptoms.
Want to know if your fatty acid status is balanced? This test offers a reliable and scientifically validated way to improve your health in a targeted way.
