IgA Subclasses Test
The IgA subclass test is a blood test that specifically identifies the two main forms of immunoglobulin A (IgA): IgA1 and IgA2. These antibodies play an important role in mucosal immunity, for example in the respiratory, intestinal and urinary tracts. An abnormality in one of these subclasses can indicate an immune system disturbance and occurs in certain autoimmune diseases, chronic infections or immune deficiencies.
IgA1 and IgA2 differ in structure and each functions slightly differently in the immune system. An imbalance between these subclasses can contribute to the development or maintenance of inflammatory processes or other complaints. Therefore, this test is particularly suitable in cases of suspected immunological disorders or persistent, unexplained symptoms where an immune disorder is suspected.
This blood test consists of:
- IgA1 in serum
- IgA2 in serum
The test requires 2 ml of serum. The test is performed through a specialized immunological analysis method and helps refine the diagnostics around immune disorders or inflammatory diseases. This determination may also be useful as part of a more comprehensive immunological profile.
