(Pre)diabetes and insulin resistance
What does this blood test measure?
This blood test consists of:
Insulin
Glucose
HOMA index calculation
HbA1c - looks back 3 months at average blood sugar levels
What does this test mean?
With this test we measure the amount of glucose and insulin in your blood after a period of at least 12 hours of fasting.
Based on these values we can calculate whether insulin and glucose are in balance or whether you have insulin resistance or (pre)diabetes type 2.
In addition, this value is a good indicator of the success of your health efforts.
It is wise to repeat this test after a period of time.
Preparation: being sober
You must be sober for this test.
Meaning:
From 8 p.m. the night before the blood draw, do not eat.
From 8 p.m. onwards, you may only drink water.
Extra insight into your metabolic health
If you want even more information about your metabolic health, you can add these tests using the sliders to the right.
Lipid profile
Measuring cholesterol levels, triglycerides and HDL and LDL cholesterol can help assess cardiovascular risk, which is often linked to insulin resistance.
C-peptide
Measuring C-peptide can give information about the amount of insulin your body produces.
Leptin and adiponectin
These hormones are involved in the regulation of metabolism and can provide valuable information about fat metabolism.
Inflammatory markers
Measuring inflammatory markers such as hs-CRP (high sensitive C-reactive protein) can help identify low-grade inflammation, which is often associated with insulin resistance.
