Helicobacter IgG blot test
Unlike the standard IgG test (ELISA), the immunoblot shows:
- Which H. pylori proteins your immune system has produced antibodies against.
- Tests are often performed for antigens such as:
- CagA—associated with more aggressive strains and an increased risk of stomach cancer
- VacA, UreA, FlaA, etc. — other proteins produced by the bacterium
It is often used as a confirmatory test following a positive or equivocal standard IgG test (ELISA), in cases of diagnostic uncertainty, or to determine whether the strain is virulent (such as CagA-positive).
The H. pylori IgG immunoblot is a specific blood test that shows exactly which components of the bacterium your immune system has recognized, and is particularly useful for confirming previous test results or in cases of uncertainty.
