The largest provider of blood tests for individuals

Bloedwaardentest is the largest provider of blood tests for individuals in the Netherlands. Our mission is: “to give people insight into their health so they can improve their vitality.”

We work with the best certified laboratories. Normally, these laboratories work exclusively for hospitals and doctors. Private individuals and practitioners not registered with the BIG do not have direct access to these laboratories. Through Bloedwaardentest, however, it is possible for consumers or partners to request a test themselves, without a referral from a doctor. This is at your own expense and does not count toward your deductible.

Bloedwaardentest is a member of the NVvPG, the Dutch Association for Preventive Health Screening. This trade association is committed to safe and effective preventive health screening and early diagnosis in the Netherlands. Membership in the NVvPG means that Bloedwaardentest operates in accordance with the quality standards and guidelines that the sector applies for responsible preventive medical screening.

How did Blood Test come to be?

Ellen van Gijsel is the founder of Bloedwaardentest. She gained her experience conducting health screenings for companies, schools, and municipalities at HumanCapitalCare, an occupational health and safety and health services provider. In 2009, she became director of Diagnostiek Nederland, a partnership among all major general practitioner laboratories in the Netherlands.

At the U-Diagnostics laboratory in Utrecht, she was responsible for blood testing for general practitioners.

In 2013, she founded Bloedwaardentest, specifically for individuals. Today, Bloedwaardentest has grown into a community for people who want to take control of their own health.

What sets us apart?

Quality

We work exclusively with ISO 15189-certified medical laboratories—the same laboratories that serve hospitals. To ensure the correct interpretation of results, we have a team of molecular biologists, hematologists, immunologists, clinical chemists, microbiologists, allergists, and forensic toxicologists. Every result is reviewed internally by our medical team before it is sent to you. If any values are abnormal, our medical team will contact you personally if necessary. Logistics are handled via PostNL’s medical mail service and a dedicated courier to the lab, ensuring your samples always arrive safely and reliably.

Service

We work with you to put together a suitable test and, if necessary, provide a customized quote. You’ll receive personalized and honest advice, both before and after your results. Your results will include reference values tailored to your gender and age, so you can immediately put the results into the right context. Results are always accompanied by an explanation in easy-to-understand language.

If your sample doesn’t arrive in good condition or the quality is insufficient, you can retake the test at no extra cost, or you’ll receive a refund. Additional testing using the same blood sample (follow-up testing) is possible without having to get another blood draw. Do you have questions about your results? We’ll provide advice over the phone on whether you should see your primary care physician. If desired, we can connect you with health coaches or other specialists in the field related to your symptoms for a consultation.

Privacy

After five business days, any remaining biological samples are destroyed. Results are sent exclusively to the email address provided when placing the order. Bloedwaardentest is registered with the Dutch Data Protection Authority and does everything in its power to ensure the security of your data.
