Thyroid supplementary (Free T4 and T3)
This test is intended to supplement a test where standard TSH is measured.
With this test, the blood values T4 free and T3 total are tested, even if your TSH is good.
Free T4 (FT4, free T4, free thyroxine) is a thyroid hormone. This hormone ensures that all kinds of processes in the body run fast enough. A value that is too low indicates a thyroid that works too slowly. Too high a value of FT4 indicates a thyroid that works too fast.
T3 is the hormone that arises from T4 and causes the final effect of thyroid hormone. So actually T3 is more important than T4, but we measure T4 to examine changes in thyroid function.
