Progesterone and Estradiol - Finger prick
Do you already know if your hormones are changing?
Who is this test for?
Are you 40 or older and noticing changes in your body? Sleeping worse, mood swings, an irregular cycle or just feeling like something is different? If so, your hormones may already be shifting - even if you are nowhere near menopause.
With this finger prick test, you measure two key hormones at home: progesterone and estradiol (estrogen). Together, they give an initial, clear picture of what your hormonal balance looks like right now.
What does this test measure?
Estradiol (E2) Estradiol is the main female sex hormone and essential for your cycle, bone density and general well-being. As you move toward menopause, this hormone gradually declines. Low levels can mean no more eggs are maturing.
Progesterone Progesterone acts as a natural calming hormone and keeps estrogen in balance. A deficiency - even before menopause - can lead to sleep problems, irritability and an irregular cycle. The balance between the two is at least as important as the separate values.
When to take?
For the most reliable result, take the test preferably in the second half of your cycle (day 19-23), when progesterone normally has its peak.
Do you no longer have a regular cycle? Then you can take the test at any time.
Please note for a reliable result
Do you use a hormone cream or gel? Wash your hands thoroughly before sampling - residue on your fingers may affect the results. Do you take more than 5 mg of biotin (vitamin B8) per day? If so, wait at least 8 hours after your last intake.
How does it work?
Simple, from home:
- Order the test - no GP referral needed
- Get the test kit at home
- Prick a drop of blood from your finger yourself
- Send the sample to our ISO-certified laboratory
- Get your results quickly, clearly explained
Want to know more than just these two values?
This finger prick test provides initial insight. But hormones do not work in isolation - they are affected by your thyroid, blood sugar, stress pattern, nutritional status and more.
Are you considering starting bioidentical hormone therapy, or want a complete and medically based picture? Then our Hormone Blood Test before Starting Bioidentical Hormones (incl. physician consultation) is the logical next step. That test measures 30+ values - from estradiol and cortisol to insulin, thyroid hormones and liver values - and concludes with a personal consultation with a doctor who will discuss your results with you.

Optional to add to this order
Want a little more context on your first reading already? Then you can take FSH and LH right away. FSH shows whether your pituitary gland needs to give the ovaries extra control; LH gives insight into ovulation. Together, they tell if there may already be a (premature) menopause.
