When especially an excess of red blood cells is seen, we speak of the disease Polycythemia Vera (abbreviated PV).
When a surplus of platelets is especially seen, it fits the disease Essential Thrombocytosis (ET for short).
Finally, there is the disease Myelofibrosis (MF) which is often characterized by an increase in white blood cells in the blood or recognized because "fibrosis" can be seen in the bone marrow. Fribose is the medical word for scarring.
All these diseases, collected in the group MPN, can be found by chance in people who have no symptoms of them at all and have a general blood test.
Sometimes there are (quite general) complaints, such as fatigue, weight loss, itching or pain in the upper abdomen.
In many cases, a thrombosis in the vein or artery is the reason for the diagnosis of an MPN. This then manifests itself, for example, in a thrombotic leg, pulmonary embolism, myocardial infarction or cerebral infarction). Patients with a so-called MPN in fact have a higher risk of thrombosis.
The delivery time for this this DNA examination is 7 to 14 days.
