hs-CRP (inflammation or infection ultra sensitive)
Hs-CRP stands for high-sensitive C-reactive protein, or high-sensitivity C-reactive protein. It is a protein produced by the liver in response to inflammation in the body.
Hs-CRP is primarily used to:
- Inflammation detection: It can also be used to detect low-grade inflammation. These are not directly related to infections or acute diseases.
- Cardiovascular disease: Assessing the risk of cardiovascular disease. Chronic, low-grade inflammation plays a role in the development of atherosclerosis (arteriosclerosis) and other heart problems.
Caution! The normal determination of CRP, so not the hs-CRP, is performed to demonstrate or exclude the possible presence of inflammation or infection, or to monitor the result of treatment of inflammation.
