Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase in erythrocytes. G-6-PHD in erythrocytes. (code G6PD from EDTA)
To diagnose glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency in hemolytic anemia, which is particularly enhanced by infections, ingestion of food (broad beans) or after medication (quinine, primaquine, chloroquine, sulfonamides, ASA, etc.).
The activity determined gives an indication of the presence of the diseases. The reticulocyte count should be taken into account in the assessment, as an increased reticulocyte count can lead to false high values.
